Canon EF 70-210mm F4 - Thoughts?

Have any of you folks here used the older Canon EF 70-210mm F4 Macro lens? If so, what are your thoughts on it?

I looked at the photos in the lens section (weren't too many of them unfortunately). I have read that it is near L quality and I like the idea of it being F4 throughout the focal range. Would prefer IS, but that would be way too expensive.

Honestly, my 24-70L doesn't seem any sharper then this lens. Although the colors I get with the L are much more vibrant. I have the money saved for a 70-200L but I am having trouble pulling the trigger with this lens in my bag.
