Is there anything I can use to hide/cover the red ring on L lens. I am trying to be lower profile about my gears.

I'm pretty sure anybody that knows the significance of that red ring would also be able to spot the lens itself. That and the big 'L' that'll be written on the front element sealer and the side of the lens body.

If you need to hide all of those just use black electrical tape. It'll also make the lens look pretty beaten up and broken down which I guess is a plus if you're trying to keep your rich lenses on the low down.

Paint the rest of your camera red.

Or just go with the tape suggestion.

Some mornings, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps.

The size of the lens will give it away more than the little red ring will.

Paint it white to match the body of the lens. :D

No, never thought about hiding the red stripe on my meager little L lens. I agree with Jeff81, the size of the lens will grab your attention more then a red stripe

Good god. Do you think hiding a red ring means anything? Most people who are likely to knock you on the head and take your gear aren't going to be up on what a gold, silver or red ring means... it's a big, black or white lens - it has to be worth something. If you're really keen there have been a few threads here where people have had the red ring fall off their lens (24-105, iirc) so it's definitely removable. I'm sure your resale value would suffer accordingly, at least with some people.

It is just a little plastic. It cuts right off.

If you end up removing it can you please send it to me. I want to use it to sharpen up my Sigma 18-200 a bit. :)

Not always, sometimes it's painted on.

Definitely true. Thieves will steal a disposable camera, given opportunity. They will steal a DSLR first and let the fence worry later about value--as said, it's got to be worth something.

The tape aspect works to some extent only because it makes the camera look so ratty and unsalable. But otherwise, they're not looking at models, and certainly not at something as esoteric as the red ring.

I remember being in Tangiers a few decades ago and this 5 year old kid started talking to me. He was able to describe my Minolta and the lens I had on it and knew more about cameras then any 5 year old, living in Tangiers, had a right to. I was amazed. Unless someone is stealing to order (which happens), it doesn't matter how you try and camoflauge your gear, imo.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

I am not trying to hide it on lens like 70-200 or any of the white lens, or even 24-70. I am thinking if I have 50L on, or 16-35, I want it to be as steathy, low profile as possible.
