Al Green 6/12/09 Bonnaroo Day 2

Al Green is one of the performers that was on my list to check out when I could. Needless to say, he is a classic. I looked forward to this. It was also my first shoot at Bonnaroo that was on the main stage...The What Stage. The stage itself was massive. From the photo pit the edge of the stage rose a good 12 ft...possibly more. Add to the fact that there were at least 200 photographers in the pit made positioning a big part of the gig. One did not have a lot of room to move around and up-noses were always a threat if you weren't careful. BTW, I have included one shot at 17mm that didn't even show 2/3rds of the stage. My guess was if you got 30-50 ft back you might have been able to capture the full band.

??? I am showing all of the photos and my web site it working. I checked the image links and they all seem to be ok? I'm not sure why you can't see them.

3, 5, and 7 are my faves.

Some nice images, but why include the first? IMO it's ruined by the mics in the faces...

Thank you. It was a tough shoot with a high stage and during daylight. I am fairly pleased with what I got.

I have to agree with you but I was trying to add a little diversity to the set...pretty much I had to go with what I could shoot.

Hey, you shot where you could shoot. I like the skin tone on #1 and I'm glad you showed it. Nice use of available light. Nice images of Al "Grits" Green.

I've shot him before and he's coming back! Not bad but it's hard in daylight. Still liking that new lens?

Thank you. The light was mostly daylight during that set. I was lucky during this set because I was able to get to at least 3 spots in the pit.

Al Green was complaining from the stage that he likes to be a lot closer and intimate with the audience. 12 ft hight and at least 20 ft from the edge of the stage was tough for both photographers and performers.
