I'm not sure if its a problem with my lens or just my focusing, but i can't get to get it right. I'm using a Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 Macro lens, and i can't seem to get a nice macro shot. Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Best advice I can give is to tighten down on the f-stop to increase your DOF. You've got a narrow DoF in this image, which seems to be properly focused in that portion of the shot.

i forgot to mention that i had to set the fstop to 5.6 to even get this shot. at 2.8 i was getting a darker image and not as clear of a shot.

1. Are you using a flash? If so try f8 to f11
2. Always try to focus on the eyes
3. Learn to use manual mode and focus by moving camera.
4. Macro is very difficult when compared to other types of photography. It will take a while. Relax and have fun.
5. SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT.
That is not a bad macro shot at all. Man, you should see some of mine when I started out:o Stick with it and you will get better. If you get serious look into a set of extension tubes or a macro lens (budget permitting). Remember, have fun. Don't get too caught up in technicalities, there is plenty of time for that later.:)

thank you alann for the info. i was not using a flash. it was today, and this snail was actually stuck under my car's tire, and removed it and put it up on a ledge. and decided to take a shot of it. i didn't use my flash for it, but next time i will.

Nice one. The focus on the front part of the shell is pretty good. As Alan says above try using MF if you were using AF , even if the AF works it doesn't know what you ant to focus on and with the narrow DOF you get with macro, it's often the wrong bit.
