We're taking our son to the zoo today, and i am going to take some photo's of the animals. i have a canon 40d with a tamron 70-200 f2.8 lens. can you give me some suggestions on what setting to use to get some good shots?

thanks.

You are probably already at the zoo. But here is what I would do. Take a lot of photos at different settings and study them when you get back home. Blur out the background by opening the aperature to 2.8 or 5.6. It will also blur out the fence in front of you if you focus in on the subject behind it. Set the camera to burst mode and capture fast multiple shots to get that right facial expression. Use an f stop of f16 or f22 to get multiple subjects in view even if they are standing at different distances from you. Take a quick picture just to get the shot and then go for the exact shot although that may be more important out in the wild than in a zoo setting. Get the family in the picture looking at the animals with a f22 setting to make both the animal and family sharp in the picture. Taking pictures of the family from the side or behind looking off into the distance gives you the capability to cut and paste with todays image editing programs and get the picture you couldn't quite capture with the camera.

Hope it helps. Just remember to shoot a lot!
