Has anyone used the Impact Lighting Kit B&H sells for under $100.00? I've been looking around for several items to assemble a fairly cheap kit and just noticed this one on their website.

On the B&H site the kit (including each of the individual items) has great reviews.

Jon.

I have been considering this kit as well. Seems like a great value for $100. I haven't yet made my purchase, but I think I am set on this one instead:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com …o_Umbrella_and_Stand.html (external link)

Granted, its $150 here is a summary of what the additional $50 buys you:
+ 45" umbrellas vs. 32" umbrellas. (~$15 price difference each)
+ kit bag ($20?)
- cold shoe adapter ($10? each)

I usually work in areas where there is more space, so for me the 45" seems like a better buy. But the 32" umbrellas would work just as good.

Its a alright kit, the swivel umbrellas adapters is crap though. As been stated its good starter kit, but wont last a life time, and its not meant to... .-)

i like how you say its decent at best.

Stands work like a champ, umbrellas im still using for tight spaces when my huge ones wont work, and the umbrella brackets still work after a year or so.

this is the best kit for the price. and i fully reccomend it. I use the stands for my alien bees all the time

I also had two of them. The work very well for my portable setup needs. My only reccomendation is to forgoe the included flash shoe mount and use the ones that come with your speedlites instead.

I ordered one of the kits. It should be here in a day or two. Considering how cheap it is, I think it will be a perfect portable kit...

Edit: What's wrong with the cold shoe adapter that comes with the kit?

Jon.

Jon.

The cold shoe adapters that come with the kits would be really tough on my flashes. Since they're just sharp cornered aluminum and fairly tight fitting, they would be a real struggle to mount the flashes on and would scrape plastic off of the flashes for me. I bought some flashzebra mounts since I was using them with Cybersyncs anyway and that solved my problem.

Also keep in mind that when the mounts arrive they have the stud on the wrong end--at least mine and a few other peoples' were.

They only thing that seemed easy to break on mine are the umbrellas but that's true of most umbrellas.

I have this kit and love it! It is a great kit to begin with and although the umbrellas are a little small they work great in small spaces. I had to flip the stud on mine also.

Bought it two years ago and it has been excellent through nearly 100 shoots. I think the only thing that has happened was the velcro on one of the umbrellas came off. Pick up some sand bags while you are at it. (or make your own).

I was considering this or the smith victor kit they have. I ended up buying the smith victor because they came with 42" umbrellas. The light stands are good but like everyone else had said, the umbrella/flash mounts are cheap and will not last you very long if they get used and abused frequently.

I need to stay out of the buy/sell forum. It's burning a hole in the wallet...
