Was using the 50D to shoot BIFs yesterday and I noticed that even when shooting at 1/1000sec, with all focus oints active the camera would not take shots at 6fps....I figured this was due to the camera waiting for focus confirmation but I am not sure? using the centre point was far faster.

I thought that with the 50D, all focus poitns were cross-type and therefor should not make any difference with reference to the center point...

I dont own one, though... Could be wrong.

What lens, may I ask?

A few bodies and lenses..

This happens with the 40D too. A camera like the 1D Mark III has a separate AF processor, in order to make sure Servo AF is completed when it's time for the next shot in the sequence.
In the simpler cameras, the general sequence and image processors in the camera have to take care of AF as well. When using all AF points, more intense calculations have to be performed by the camera, so sometimes it's not ready in time to keep up with the rather fast sequence photography the 40D/50D is capable of.

That is what I had presumed, thanks for the confirmation.
