Today I returned from a 5 day trip to Finland, Kuhmo near the Russian border to photograph bears. The weather was not the best, cloudy and rainy so the ligth was not the best resulting in high ISO and long shutter times.

Each day we went to the hides at 6 pm and stayed there all nigth until 8 am next morning looking for bears. Not all the photo hides are very comfortable. Some are semi confortable meaning that there were real chairs and it was possible to stand up inside the hide. Other hides had wodden benches with pillows and it was not possible to stand up. Visiting the toilet, well that was best to do before or after

The photo hides we used are run by Proffesional Nature Photographer Lassi Rautianen (external link)

Time for a few photos. More can be seen here. (external link)

It depends on the area. But yes they can come very close if its really quiet.

I still like the first one, Tommy. Looks like a wonderful holiday experience to me.

I'm looking forward to seeing more animal shots.

It was great but it was also a little exhausting because since thursday 5 am I have only gotten around 10 hours sleep. I could not sleep in the hides.
