I wanted to be the first in the family to get a 5DII and gloat over everyone else's 40D's. But now I find out that my brother-in-law got a 5D2 with his tax return, and my sister loved it so much, she went out and bought one too! Decent suite of lenses too. Passed by my siblings AGAIN!

When is the 5DIII scheduled to be out??

It is always fun to compare and discuss gear at family gatherings. My brother in law thought he was hot stuff with his XSi, until I got my 50D. My dad has a XTi and is always talking about going FF. I keep thinking we will show up for dinner one night and he will have something new.

Or get a 5D classic and a Canon XL2 video camera and tell them that th difference in picture quality is negligable, but your video will blow theirs out of the water..

So, like, do any of you actually shoot pictures? Is there any competition at all in the family for "best photographs", or is it all just "most expensive gear"?

I'm sorry to be a bit sarcastic, but, really, why does it matter?

My exact same thoughts. Why not show them both up by producing fantastic photos with your existing gear. Isn't that what it is really all about?

This is the gear forum, all we do here is compare noise levels in 100% crops of ISO 25600 images, especially when they have different pixel densities, which renders the actual validity of the comparison entirely null. Also, the more your camera costs, the cooler you are.

...Taking photos is for people with point and shoots.

;)

I'm sarcastic!

My sister usually gets my left overs... When she saw that I bought the 5DMK2 she was wondering when she would get my 40D... I quickly realized that they both have their place and compliment each other very well so I told her probably not anytime soon. Needless to say she wasn't very happy with that answer :-)
