there is a guy selling a 300mm f4 L lens in "prime" condition or so he says on craigslist do u think is a good buy for 675. going to look at it tomorrow

At that price, be wary. See the lens in person, bring your camera, and take a few test shots.

i was definitely going to do that.... its not an IS lens also

I think that is a good price. definitely check it out first hand. the 300 you are talking about is an older lens but is sharper than the newer IS version. I'd buy it if everything is on the up and up.

In general I'd advise against Craig's List. You never know who you are dealing with. eBay is way better. Used lenses? - can't beat Keh.com

He is selling stolen gear.

you can usually tell if it's stolen...

just ask for examples when it was used in the past to "see if you shoot similar things" and see if the seller knows anything about it...

as for ebay, couldn't stuff be stolen there too?

Just to play the devils advocate here, but I have on occasion found that some ppl for what ever reason have lost interest in the hobby, sell they're equipment for less that fair market value either to get rid of it or ignorance. It's not common, but it does happen.
