50mm 1.4 on Full Sensor and Crop (Can you post picture examples of both?)

I would be interested to see examples of the same picture taken with the Canon 50mm 1.4 ideally on both a 40D and 5DMKII and preferably wide open or near wide open. Other crop and full frame combinations will do if the two bodies mentioned are not available.

Basically what I am trying to understand what I would gain on my 40D by buying this lens immediately and what I would not get ahead of buying a 5DMKII.

Any other comments in addition to examples would also be appreciated.

Thanks

Plenty of comparisons available, just try Google, you will get more than you can stand. Here is a quick example;

Thanks. That example is not exactly what I was expecting.

What I am trying to understand is if you get better bokeh (or anything else?) on a full frame above a crop camera with this lens, as I presume more of the lens (glass) is contributing to the image? For example I understand that a TS lens will not give the full TS effect on a crop sensor because there "isn't enough image size for it to perform properly", or so I was told. I have taken this logic to thinking about a wide open prime with my above request.

80mm 2.8 on APS-C is like 50mm 1.4 on a full frame in terms of framing and DOF. Your DOF will be about 2 stops thinner with similar framing. Of course a 50mm lens on full frame will be like a 30mm lens on APS-C fro feild of view. So it is hard to directly compare the lens on two bodies.

I think you have answered it for me with the "2 stops thinner". This is what I was trying to get my head around.

I would still like to see what 2 stops looks like, starting at 1.4 - as I currently don't have a lens capable of creating this.

mm yea but the FOV changes as well... so you should compare 50mm(crop) and 80mm(FF) with the same aperture to see the real difference...

I cant locate any comparisons ive done with 50mm at the moment -

Would you want 50mm 1.4 40d
then 50 1.4 5d2 and walk closer to subject to frame them the same??

off hand i have this to compare going from 43mm 40d f2.8 to 70mm 5d f2.8

i know its not what your asking for... but its all I have sitting online atm. I stood in the same spot to take both pics

40d

5d

and this... again taken from the same distance but varying the FL to frame... The reasoning behind this test for me was if i had the 24-70 attached - and was standing in 1 spot and framed something to my liking - what is the difference in look when BOTH are at the same aperture.
This doesnt do exactly what you ask...i have millions of 50 1.4 shots on both cameras - just no tests of same framing where with the 5d i would have to step forward to change the framing - which would vary the background blur effect

top is 5d at 70mm f5.6, bottom is 40d 43mm at f5.6
