Thats pretty cool indeed. My 50L came in a couple days ago with a UX05xx date code meaning it was made LAST MONTH!! I don't know, thats kinda exciting to me.

jklewer, my 50l is a ux05 as well, and it just makes me smile every time i look at those little numbers and letters.

Mine, coded UU11 (from '06) is on the way

6 months used, 6 months warranty, and just a price of 1300€. New cost +2200€ !!

In the interest of full disclosure, this is my second 85L. Now, I do not own two; I had one before, sold it, now got it again.

I went through a lens buying frenzy (I am sure no one on this forum understands this ) and sold most of that gear.

Now, having learned what all the hubbub is about with various lenses, I have my "play" lenses such as the 50 1.8, 70-300 IS, etc... and this "work" lens is going to be my only L for a while for when I had the first one, the photos were so clear and clean (and no caffeine) that I couldn't resist getting another one after some contemplation.

The main purpose of this lens will be for us to shoot (uh, take formal photos) of our daughter for special dates such as her second birthday where she is turning 1 in a month (her first birthday was the day she was born for those into accuracy; get other parents to understand this will ya?).

We are doing the shoot this Saturday, so I right now the 85L is going in for a spa, manicure, hair-do and the whole bit so it will be up for the big day this Saturday.

We may share a pic or two.

All kidding aside, frankly, the best photo I have ever probably taken of a person is our daughter at 6 months old with the 85 1.8, but when you understanding lighting, etc..., then you can get pro results from non-pro level lenses.

that sounds like a great tradition. We usually get the mandatory blowing the candles out on the cake shot for our kids birthdays, but a shoot is a much better idea. One other thing - it grooms them for the mom/dad want to take pictures of me again thing from an early age. My young teens think it is a very bothersome things to do and I can not get any shots.

My brand-new 135L has a UX04 date code. No wonder no one has them in stock.

I just checked my 85L: UX06xx. Would seem mine is from June then?

Haha, its a big deal because its such a great feeling! Its like getting a new car or boat, you want to show it off and let everyone know that it was made/ built only a month ago! Its just a spirit booster
