Hey guys!
As i mentioned a couple of weeks ago, my Canon XSi died on me..
https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=708544
I have sent it into Canon to fix and because it's the main board issue, warranty won't cover it and they need to re-program my camera entirely. It's a bummer, but since i love that camera so much, I've decided to fix it. It will take about 4 weeks to fix (can you beleive it?.. half my summer without my camera!! >.< )

However, my question today is whether or not you guys think the 10D is a good camera to get for now as my back-up and temporary camera for now. I have a couple of casual shoots the next couple of weeks and i need a camera badly, but don't have the funds to finance something too expensive.

I found a relatively-new Canon 10D, shot only 5000 pictures, for $150 CDN (or about $180USD. What do you guys think, should i go for it?
Are there any specs or issues of the 10D i need to keep in mind?

I've seen some used 20D and XTi's floating around for at least 400, but with a lot of accuations and abuse. so I beleive this Canon 10D body is a good deal.

At one time the 10D was the cream of the crop and it's still a very capable machine. If you found one in really good shape for $150 I'd say it's worth it. Do note that your EF-S lens will not work even though the 10D is a crop camera.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

10D is a beefed-up version of the XT. I got that instead of an XT when migrating from the old D30. Note that the 10D has a 7-AF system and not 9 of your XSi.

My take on it... get it.

Not exactly, the 10D is 6mp and I've heard it functions slower. I'd bet it's af is better though and it's build and ergonomics will definitely be better. The 20D is a beefed up XT.

For 150? Go for it. Just cannot use 18-55 on it, like it was said previously!

Dang! My bad... it was a long time ago...

I think what I meant to say was that the 10D is a beefed-up D60! But I do recall getting the 10D instead of the XT! Ergonomics is king!

I'd say get it since it's at a GREAT price and a solid camera.

The 20d was out before the xt, so the xt is in fact, a watered down version of the 20d. ;)

You can never have enough backup cameras imho. I shot a wedding and realized I needed more than one body as changing lens sucked monkey testicles.

I'd personally get a D60 (not a nikon ;)) over the 10D. I'd been saving for one for a year when canon announced the 10D and the D60 supply dried up. I always prefered the processing on the D60 from what I'd seen and was NEVER happy with the IQ from the 10D. It wasn't terrible, it's just that the D60 was better. Also, the 20D is a HUGE step up.

Basically, $180 for a 10D isn't bad, but if you can get a D60 for less (since it's older) or a 20D for not much more, go with those instead.

But you know, the D60's different processing and peculiarity can be found in the older 1D and 1Ds! At least that's what I've noticed. That's why I loved my 1D (and now my 1Ds) so much! Granted, I'd swap it for a 1DsII any time of the day!

10D pros: Pretty much everything (really, it is a GREAT camera )

10D cons: slow to "boot" and image review is a little sluggish

I still have the 10D. Plan on keeping it for quite a few years. Great camera and highly recommended.

I would go for it ASAP. Great price for a great camera! It was my first DSLR, definitely a Canon "classic"...

yeah, I LOVED my 1D (had it AFTER my 1Dii) but the batteries SUCKED. I know the s is much better, but for me the 1D was to battery hungry for my use (I'd need 4 batteries and kill all 4 in one day easy).
