Yes, we are.

Compared to the 10D, the 20D has a much more robust shutter--faster traveling curtains (for a higher flash sync), stronger flash circuit (250v max instead of 6v max), greater cycle rating (100,000 versus 50,000), slightly tighter construction (better dust and moisture resistance). It also has a bigger buffer, writes to the card faster, starts up faster, displays to the LCD faster, and lasts longer on a battery charge.

The 20D body is wholly different from the Rebel body--the xxD cameras are of their own type, and the 20D is more robust than the 10D.

That's incorrect, if your taking about shutter which you may not be... cycle rating?
your thinking of the 30D.

I would also recommend the the 20D over the 10D... You can get a 20D for less than 300$ if you look hard enough.

I keep a 10D in the backpocket of my camera bag for back up. I feel comfortable knowing if my 1Ds2 goes down for any reason (mechanical failure, batteries, etc) it's sitting there fully charged and waiting to get me through the shoot without the client being none the wiser.

I turn it on and fire a few frames before every shoot to verify it's still working and charged. I've consider putting another one in my truck with a nifty fifty as a further backup but haven't gone that far yet. Can't beat a fully capable money making professional shooting machine for three hundred bucks.

It's also the camera I recommend all new DSLR shooters buy. I could sell these things like hot cakes if I had a camera store. They are much better learning tools and a far better value than a new Rebel. It's sorta like the Pentax K1000 of modern digital photography.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 10D doesn't take EFS lenses.

Correct...no EFS lenses on the 10D unless you want to perform surgery on a lens.

What Canon said, specifically, was:

The shutter durability [of the 20D] is about twice that of the EOS 10D.

Look at my sig. Whenever I just go putzing or a family get-together or anything for play I take my 10D. Great camera and for $150 what have you got to lose?

^^+1. For $150 I'd snap it up in an instant. I'll be going back to PNG later this year and I will be looking at buying a 10D, 20D, or 30D to take as a backup (my 40D died 8 days into my last trip... damn humidity)

I just bought a 50D thinking that i will sell the 10D. But now I would like to keep it
as a backup camera.
Never failed me even once and all I learned about digital SLR was on the 10d.

I disagree. I found the color to be a lot better on the 10D than the 10D:rolleyes:

Come to think of it the 30D was the first cam that actually had a rating that was publicized. Although canon claimed the shutter rating extended to 100,000 in the 30D press release? :(

Back in 87, Modern Photography published an article indicating that consumer cameras (all film at the time) had an average shutter life of 40,000 cycles. Professional cameras (Canon F1, Nikon F) at that time were boasting 100,000 cycles.

So, let's say that number continued through the 10D...because I can't recall any time Canon ever advertised anything at all about the shutter lifetime of their consumer cameras until they advertised that the 20D had twice the lifetime of the 10D. So we can posssibly presume the 20D had an unspecified lifetime of 80,000 cycles.

So then with the 30D, they began advertising 100,000 cycles as an improvement over an unadvertised lifetime that was twice as long as the previously unadvertised life cycle which may have been 40,000.
