I did an esesh of a couple recently and am having trouble fixing her finger which she banged up a bit.
It's her nail, the one that's black and white.

If someone could provide some insight that would be fantastic because I am lost right now.

Select the little finger nail (roughly).
Copy and paste it onto a new layer.
Rotate scale and position it over the damaged nail.
Use a layer mask to trim it to size and shape.
Use curve/hue/Saturation to make the colour match (needs darkening)
Job done.

Here's a shot. Also did some surface blurring and sharpening and focusing attention on the hands with the natural heart-shaped area around the hands. maybe a little over the top.... :)

wrong wrong wrong.. take a look at her broken finger, then look at the tip of her finger, thats the contrast and brightness you should be aiming for!

Dont want to offend those who made a good effort obviously! just an observation! :D

You also need to remove the black edge around the man's 3rd and 4th finger as well. This must have occured from your post processing.

No problem Osso - a couple of comments.

1) The original nail has a wide range (relatively speaking) of brightness, from about L30 to L58, depending on where you sample. I shot for around L40 or so for the average of the nail, similar to the man's pointer finger nail. Maybe in the conversion to JPEG, etc. some shifts occurred. I agree it could go darker.

2) The black outline around the man's pinky is in the original.

Here is L30 on the nail.

Thanks guys, Will do that!!
The reason he has a black edge around his finger is because there was a plaque on the bench that just took away from the picture so I cloned it out.

Oh you guys are great!

Took all of your advice and this is what I came up with:

Original (so you don't have to scroll up)

Masking, brightness and contrast

POTN-momma -

I think you did a great job. I am continually amazed by the tremendous attention to detail with things like this, and thanks so much for posting, as it helps us pay attention to the little things.

No prob, and thank you.

It's funny, I am usually able to spot the little things such as this, or a stray hair, but have problems spotting little composition errors :S

Sorry to say that you should not end up with a black line around the finger - that looks bad.

Post a link to the original and let us see what we can do.
