While walking around the marshland at Saint Vincent College, Monastery Run Improvement Project I came across two mommas. Well, ones expecting. Momma Goose, didn’t like my intrusion too much. The other, Momma Merganser, she's quite proud of her little brood and was not too bashful showing them off.
These wer taken with the trusty 70-200 at f/8 on manual at 200 ISOand the white balance was set at auto. With the help of a monopod.
Enjoy!
As a side note:
Saint Vincent's Project is for all intensive purposes a wetland area, but it is much more. Here in Western PA, we have a lot of mine reclamation projects going on. This particular project reclaims acid mine run off through multiple sedimentation ponds and with the help of marsh vegetation cleaning the water of pollutants. The orange waste is the byproduct of sulfur, iron and other deposits that are from our numerous coalmines. Believe me when I say I have seen the Loyalhanna bright orange. This project has reduced cleared the river most remarkably. Waterfowl and other animals use this area extensively.
