I'm not sold on the black and white....opinions and other observations welcome.

It looks like one of those HDR's that, IMHO, was taken a little too garish and then converted. Your dynamic range seems lacking,

It's not an HDR but I do agree to an extent. The more I look at it the darker it looks to me.

Mayerk, I've lusted after your Cincy bridges many times on my way down from Cleveland to Nashville. Unfortunately at 70mph my wife gets a bit hysterical if I divide my driving attention.

I love the clouds here and like the idea of what you were attempting with the bridge. Perhaps it's sharpenned maybe a bit too much? But it does lend itself to a b/w interpretation and the composition is nicely done. Could we see your original color version? Also, maybe the tonal range of the bridge and building elements is a bit too compressed... is this what you mean by your uncertainty of the b/w. If we saw more shades of gray in between that may help.

Anyway, thanks for sharing a very interesting view. - Stu

The real problem for me here is that the bridge gets completely lost in the drama of the clouds.

...hhmm.... there is something to what you are saying. It's almost like there are two photos. The clouds are beautiful, stunning a fairly realistic IMO. But the bridge looks a little HDR or something.... the start contrast and lack of middle and lighter grays. But I think it could be enhanced though with some selective layer adjustments.

I don't want to hijack the thread by posting one of mine here, but this is what I mean by a broader tonal range. I like your clouds better than mine, but by playing with the color sliders in CS3 and adjusting them with various layers, I was able to squeeze a bit more gray out for my tastes:

Here it is. I kind of thought the same thing about the sky/bridge thing. My PP started with the sky and was so excited to finally capture some decent clouds I may have gotten carried away. It was one of those things that looked pretty good when I was messing with it on photoshop, but when I looked at it the next day I wasn't sure if I liked it as much..........

anyway, here's the original, feel free to give it a go. Have fun.

I think it looks good in color too. The only thing really working against you is that the foreground (construction) is pretty distracting.
