And what do you think of it?

Recommend it to a friend?

I hear a lot of people don't really like it; too heavy, too slow, not very great in comparison to other lenses you could get for the same amount of money.

I thought about one till I read the poor reviews on it.

I was shooting soccer this weekend with a girl that was using one. She really liked it. It's a great lens all-around if you have enough light. You just can't find versatility like that in such a quality lens.

agreed.. its very very versatile, but a little pricey! imo i'd rather buy 2 lenses and lug them around for that price.

Owned it for a couple weeks. Ended up selling it. Way too soft at the lower focal lengths. There will never be a good super focal length lens. It's decent for emergencies I guess when you don't know what focal length you need. I know a lot of paparazzi use this lens.

Thanks, all, for the response.

At this point, for shooting soccer and some wildlife, the 70-200 L 2.8 makes more sense. And, if I'm willing to lose a stop, and the AF function, I can go to a TLC, which I understand does not work with the 20-300.

Definitely recommend the 70-200 for your situation

One of my friend has it. I used it a few times. Persoanlly, I don't like it. It is bit, heavy, slow, white. I mostly use wide angle, so I prefer smaller lens like 24-105L or even 28f1.8. On the other hand, my friend swear by it. He shoots anything and everything, so being able to go from 28-300 in a fraction of second is a nice features. I think it really depends on what you want.
