I went to the Queen Charlotte islands for two weeks in early June. One morning the tide was out I went for a walk on the beach with my 30D and 40D and a EFS60mm f2.8 macro lens and a 24-105 f4 lens. There were tiny crabs all over the beach near the water. Some of their colours was amazing. The largest would be able to hide under a quarter. They were pretty fast too. Some of them were too fast to get a clear shot with the 24-105 lens and the 60mm macro lens has a very shallow plane of focus as you can see in some of the photos. I have had better results with the 24-105 for macro photos because of this. I suppose a flash and a smaller aperture have would helped.
