I got home from work Thursday night and these guys were in my tree. They nattered and flew to a higher perch, but stayed long enough for me to get some cool shots. (Cool for me - I'm a rank amateur when it comes to bird photos...)

Here is one:

Camera:Canon EOS 50D (external link)Exposure:0.003 sec (1/320)Aperture:f/6.3Focal Length:250 mmISO Speed:400

And here is the other one:

Camera:Canon EOS 50D (external link)Exposure:0.003 sec (1/320)Aperture:f/6.3Focal Length:270 mmISO Speed:400

Sorry about the blown out sky - it was really overcast and I haven't figured out layers yet! :o

And here they are together:

I actually took this one first - hence the short focal length. I had my 17-85 IS on the camera. They flew to 2 different spots but then stayed put so I was able to put on my 70-300 DO and get the other shots.

Nice looking birds...I have a family that comes to my door every day. The 2 kids are bigger than the parents, and the parents are still feeding them...really fun to watch! I like that first shot!

Nice captures. I remember first seeing those "huge" black ravens for the first time in Anchorage, Alaska of all places. Their immense size can really be appreciated when seen in person.

They really are huge, aren't they? These don't seem too big, but they are at least 14 or 15 inches from beak to tail, and the wing span is well over 2 feet. I believe they are a young couple (did you know ravens mate for life?) and they seem to be determined to make a nest in one of the trees in my frint yard!

We call the local birds "Turkey Ravens" because they get so big. In the winter you'll see them around town scavenging stuff from the back of pickups, and 3 or 4 birds will fill up the truck bed!
