OK, so I'm getting into this photography thing and will be needing a place to
post photos online where I can send folks to checkout pics I've taken.

I've seen a few places where you can post/store photos for free and I've
also seen some of those go away...so where's a good place to post photos
that seems like they're going to be around a while?

I don't mind if they have ads, as long as they don't have those irritating
pop ups, or links to porno sites or other types of sites that aren't family
friendly.

I use SmugMug and really like them. I think you can get $5 off if you reference me. :)

Zenfolio works well too, and can get you a $5 off also for referral.

One thing to keep in mind....there are no free rides. If you use a free hosting service...expect to get exactly what you pay for and less. You also run the risk of having your work snagged in a rights grab. Be sure to check the terms and conditions of any host you use. People hosting photos on Flickr are essentially giving their pictures away.

Even if you put some text over the picture saying "Copyright 2009 - Bob Smith"
or something similar?

On the other hand, I get your point.

I actually do webdesign and webhosting so I can always host there
and hopefully there won't be too much bandwidth usage if I get that
big shot that becomes so wildly popular that 18 million people all have
to logon and check it out...

Hey, it could happen... (that about the time my alarm clock goes
off and it's time to get up and go to work....dreaming again...)

But, I'll check out these suggestions and see what's up

Do these sites mind if you use the URLs where a image is located for posting images on...say, a talkboard like this one?
