The Fairbanks area is a land of contrasts. In winter we get about 3 hours of sun, with a couple more of dusk/dawn on either end. The temp can get darn cold too. The coldest I've experienced is -68 F, really cold -C. During the summers we get 22 hours of sun, with the rest dusk/dawn, with temps getting into the 80s, and even the low 90s on occasion. This is a mother and her calf. They wander around our area. We even get to see them in the yard. We have to be really careful if they're around, so as to not get stomped on by Mom. One of the best things about visiting the Fairbanks area last June was the long period of daylight. We were next to a river and frequently saw people out boating, canoeing, fishing, etc around midnight. I assumed there is a philosophy of do it while you can.
