it sounds like you're talking about the generic file search in Windows...that is slow since it has to scan every file on your drive to find all related hits. you're comparing two different types of search applicatons.

if you install Windows Desktop Search (or Google Desktop or any other indexing search tool), then it will be instant like you are wanting.

I used to use Google Desktop, but I stopped that kind'a program due to its resource usage, which is not that big of a deal anymore, but back then it was.
The built-in Windows Search Windows is still slow, even when you tell it to look for just a ".jpeg" under Images...
I don't understand that.
The "Windows Search" you suggested doesn't find a ".jpg" like the "Everything" does, which is not that great of importance, but it was the test I used.
(Which I'm sure there are better tests that could be done if one wanted)
I do like the image icons in the "Windows Search" program though, although, it didn't seem to work on every try, maybe I goofed up...
I just tried again, NOW it's finding some ".jpg", not the "30,857 I found with the "Everything", but around 800 or so, so may e like Google Desktop it takes time to 'get to know' your PC...
This small "Everything" program I suggested was just in case someone didn't know that there were other search options, and since it's small, and a 'no-brainer', it's a good one.
I just downloaded the one you suggested, and I wasn't aware of that one at all, I can see that it has a LOT more options too.
I do think that they both have their places, it took me a few minutes to 'get' how to use the Windows Search, there is a 'slight' learning curve, but not that big.
The small one doesn't have a learning curve at all, so it'd be useful for those that need that type, that maybe aren't that computer literate.
I'll keep 'em both installed and give 'em a good try out though.
Thanks for the input, it's nice to know that these are out there, it's something I don't really look for, but when it's there in front of me, I really like what I see, in both, and they are both useful as i see it.
