I think the reason it feels like it doesn't work is that there are too many horizontal lines happening. It looks too busy, and although the light cord runs down the left third, the bulb actually sits almost in the horizontal center of the shot.
If you get another chance, try reframing to remove some of the busy lines, or to change their angle... see if you can get them on the diagonal. The other thing you could do is change the elevation of the camera, which would move all the cluttered lines to the top third and use the wall as the bg for the bulb.
