I will be going to a few outdoor concerts this summer & want to try to get some good shots..I have No idea what settings to use:rolleyes:

The bands will be playing from 8;pm -11;pm so its still light out at 8;pm
do i need a flash? shutter speed?....auto? av/manual?

here is a shot from last yr..i think i used "auto" to be on the safe side.

any advice please~~

Wow! I wish you had the manual shots as well so most of the pros could suggest and compare with the auto-shot above for you...
With the auto, I would say you need to be closer...

Manual, well depending on the sun, overcast, or rain, I would not stand back so far.... Have you ever try going out there now before the summer concert start? Try tonight and see if you can just have some friends or family member to go out there with you to test some shots out... Let them stand on the stage and try different location, angles, and settings.

Wishing you the best! please post some of the test shots!

I would advise using AV mode, usually the highest ISO your camera is capable of. You'll want as fast of a shutter speed as you can muster, hopefully above 1/60s, but faster is better.

To be honest, sometimes it just gets too dark outside for concert shots. I was shooting a concert on Tuesday that I was sitting around 1/30 at f/2.8 with ISO 3200. Outdoor concerts don't usually have the best lighting, unless they happen to have a nice spotlight on the performers.

Also: make sure you use the proper whitebalance ;)
