Impact vs Photoflex reflector kits

So, just looking for some quality input on the Impact 42" 5in1 reflector kit vs the Photoflex kit

I think my biggest concern is the durability of the stand and rigidity/support in breezy locations. The Impact, being cheaper makes me lean to that, if they are comparable in quality to Photoflex. I am aware of the popularity and quality confidence of the Photoflex.
Anyone with experience of both for comparison, or opinions on the Impact?

I'd say photoflex over impact reflectors any day. Photoflex have a good build quality and mine are nice and durable.

One thing I will add....is that I would think twice before doing one of the 5-in-1 kits. The fabric may not last as long, as well as not being as taut on the reflector frame and therefore being less effective or exact. I'm a big believer in reflectors that are white on one side and sunlight/softgold (mixture of gold and silver) on the other side.

On a breezy or windy day, when working by yourself, any reflector is going to make your life miserable. All collapsible reflectors bend and bow and won't stay put.

My personal favorites and most used are similar to Jeff's with the addition of silver. I find myself using white, silver and soft gold (sometimes called sunfire or Zebra, as California Sunbounce calls it). I never use solid gold. That's just my preference.

In terms of the holder and arm, I've never used the Impact but I do have and use the Photoflex LiteDisc holder and find it to be a well designed and sturdy piece of gear for even the largest collapsible reflector.

are all photoflex 5 in 1 collapsible? Adorama had the photoflex 5/1 kit and stand on sale for $139 yesterday, but too bad it's back to $225 today.

Well, there goes my plans. I contacted a local place here. Seems the Photoflex kit is not offered in Canada. I would buy US, but by the time I pay shipping... yuck.
The local store is able to set me up with a "5-in-1 reflector 48” from Lastolite at $159.95 and could add a holder (Lastolite 1100) at $69.95 as well as an SLS medium light stand at $32.99 which would be similar to the Photoflex kit".
Looks like I am taking that!

Lastolite makes excellent products. My guess is that it's of comparable or better quality than the Photoflex kit.

here are some observations I made on a similar thread about the Impact 5 in 1 reflective panel

"Just received my 42" Impact 5-1 panel, I have to say it came to be about what I expected. The disc quality is good. The reflective materiel looks cheap and may peel in time. The zipper is diffently going to be giving me problems in the long run. Overall I am satisfied with what I got.

That being said there are few things I wish I could have learned before buying this panel. The 42" disc folds down to 15", which is a bit too large to fit into my camera bag. 42" is awsome as a refelctive/translucent surface size, but I think 30" would have been a more practicel solution because it folds down to 10" only, which is possible to fit inside a bag.

The reflective material is a double sided cover that has on one lining gold and white and the other sunfire and silver. I absolutely hate this arrangement because I have no use for gold or sunfire. Instead of putting silver and white on one lining they switched them around. Normally I would like to try both white and silver to see which to go with. To do that with this disc I have unzip the whole cover and switch it inside out and zip it back. That is absolutely ridicules.

Also the whole ziping and unzipping ordeal isn't a very practical solution as might seem at first. I think buying double (2-1) refelcetive matrail is probabaly a smarter solution."

I have one of the Impact 5-1 kits and shoot with someone that a gold/silver Photoflex 52" reflector. The Photoflex is definitely built a LOT better, but for my occasional use the Impact works just fine for the money.

Avoid Impact reflectors, the construction is good, but i bought a silver reflector and it leaves glitter from the silver side all over the place, if you want to consider another option from the Photoflex kit I would recommend Interfit, IMHO Interfit´s offer in many aspects is better than photoflex in some of their reflectors.
