Hello everyone,

I am currently looking at buying a used 1D Mk II (non-N) that has around 60K clicks for $1,099 and wanted to get some advice on what to look at and check on it before buying.

Thanks in advanced.

I just picked mine up last week for $1150. It was immaculate and has 22,000 shots on it. My advice would be to look for the same things as you would any other dslr. Check the sensor and shutter count, overall condition of the body. Mount a couple of lenses on there to make sure that there is no problem with the contacts. Good luck with the search, it is an amazing camera.

Got it off of Craigslist. Guy sat and chit chatted with me for two hours about his history in the photo business in LA. Great guy and great camera.

I got mine of craigslist with 63K actuations as well.

If you have a laptop, load foxbat onto it and bring your usb cord with you.

Take some test shots and review the photos on the computer.
Check the shutter count to make sure it's as advertised.

When you're reviewing the photos, stop it down to around f/8 and take a photo of the sky or something bright. When I got mine, the sensor was absolutely filthy and I had it cleaned as soon as I got it.

Create a quick list of the things the seller is including in the deal and make sure to see everything that's included before you buy.

If everything else works out, you got yourself a good body!

Well I went in to Calumet today to go check it out. Didn't end up buying it but kept it on hold.

At $1,099 they are only including the battery (manufactured in 06), a Rebel series strap, and NO charger . The body (manufactured in 04) itself is in somewhat decent shape but the port cover and eyepiece cover is missing and the hot-shoe does have quite a lot of wear.

Also the shutter count turned out to be 112K, not 60K .

They claim it was just sent in to Canon for a cleaning but from some of my test shots there does appear to be some dust on the sensor. It appears that they have been storing it on the shelf without a cap.

Any thoughts about this?

and NO charger....

Any thoughts about this?

....a charger will set you back $340......
KEH has an "ex plus" 1D2 for $1219 with batt and charger....

I got a used Mrk II N with a new sensor from FM for $1,500. The guy is a photographer out of the Tampa area. I gave him my number and we talked about an hour. I got everything but the CD and manual plus an extra battery.

It seems (to me) that FM isn't as popular as POTN. Good deals on equipment here seem to go in minutes. It seems that on FM you get a longer window.

Well I talked with Calumet today and they re-evaluated the camera and found a charger (they said it was supposed to be included originally but it had been misplaced) and offered the camera at $929.

To summarize:

Used 1D MK II (non-N) made in 2004 with 112K clicks on the shutter. Former Calumet rental body.
1 Canon NP-E3 battery made in 2006
1 Canon NP-E2 battery charger
1 Canon camera strap

All for $929 .

Is this a decent deal? or should I look elsewhere?

Thanks in advanced.

I'd say that's not bad. I just last month gave $415 for an "ugly" Mk2 from KEH, with no battery nor charger. I had extra batteries and the charger for my 1DS, so that part was a non event for me. Figure a new genuine Canon battery cost $120 ( B&H ) ....and yes you can buy third party batts cheaper....and the aforementioned charger at $340. So that would have put mine at at about $875....so at $929, I'd say that's you're in the ballpark.
I've never dealt with Calumet, so I can't comment on that part of it....I would ask them if they have a return policy ( you'd probably have to at least pay return shipping, and possibly a restock fee ) if it is not what you expected as far as condition and function.

They have a 14 day return policy with no restocking fee and there is a 90 day Calumet warranty included.

I'm buying in store so I don't have to worry about return shipping :p .
