So I have ~400 photos on Flickr and have noticed that some of them are getting used in people's blogs. While I dont mind them being used in the ways they have been used so far (just general slideshows) I wouldn't want to seem them on a blog being used in a manner that I didnt agree with.

What are the rules on using photos in blogs? Could I asked for them to be taken down if I wanted to?

Isn't there an option on flickr that grants them permission ? Check your settings

If your not being asked stop them. Letting them continue to basically steal your property makes them think they can steal nayone's property. If you want to let people use your images for free thats your business, but at least demand to be asked and given approval of their use. Would you want your pictures to show up on a blog that endorses the killing of puppies and kittens with a nice photo credit?

I am sure you can put up something that says you require people to receive written permission to use your images and then go after those who don't get it. Part of protecting your copyrights is that in doing so you educate and help protect others by doing so.

As popular as flicr is -- this is why I do not use it -- I am really not interested in giving away my work - I might be a bit anal but this is why I do not share many on facebook either- and when I do it is tiny with my name all over it.

As I said they are on the full copyright setting.

Anyway, apparently they were selected randomly by the slideshow generator when she put in zoo animals. When asked they were taken down.

Thanks for the help guys.

silvrr -- the real question is how many other of your photos are being used that you do not know about? not to be mean -- but just something to think about.

Yeah, I know that there are some that I will never know how they are being used. However, my family and friends really like to see my stuff and I use flickr to do so.

I have noticed that other people cannont "right click save as" and get a jpeg. the options are GIF or bitmap. When you save these files they are saved with the file name "spaceball" and I think they are just a very (10-15 pixel) white image.

Now when I post to a forum, say potn, the full high res image can be saved as a JPEG.

I looked at your flikr-nice pics by the way...
If you know that people are directly linking from your photo you could just choose replace photo and upload an image that says copyright violation or something, or just put water marks on your images as a deterrent. there is no fail safe way to stop someone using your images when on line. just because you cant right click and save doesnt meant yu cant do a screen capture and save the images that way..

I wonder if that slideshow wa a flikr generated thing? maybe there is something in the flikr terms that says it has the right to use images in slideshows IDK though....

In "Your Account" "Privacy and Permissions", there is a selection that says "Who can blog your stuff" Is this set to "Only You"?

This is separate from the copyright settings.

Yeah, I realize that. There is no way to stop someone who is determined to do it. However, I limit the size other people can see so that only a small resolution could be taken in this manner.
