We have a quartet of them flitting around the neighbourhood. Every so often, one of them rests in the top of my apple tree. This one allowed me to creep up close and shoot him from an upstairs window.

Like a fool, I left the ISO at 500, which has resulted in slight loss of crisp detail.

I applied Noiseware and some capture sharpening. Apart from that, this is OOC.

great sharp shot Pete. Have you considered cropping a bit of the OOF leaf out of the frame? It does steal a bit of the attention when viewing.

Thanks Dave. I was more concentrating on getting the focus right here. These birds will be sticking around a while, so I'll continue to work on them.

Occasionally a local pet UK Goldfinch escapes and is found loose in my area, unfortunately I've yet to see one yet. Such interesting contrasting colors, and we don't have any wild birds that look like them.

They're pretty chirpy as well, you can see how they'd be used as pets. It's just nice to see them fly around wild.

I noticed that they've taken to the apple tree and I saw one with some fluff in it's beak. It could be that they're intending a second brood, so I've laid off hassling them in case I disturb them too much.

Ain't that the truth! I'm going through a litre* a day what with them and the Siskins.

* I use a sawn off 2L coke bottle to refill the feeder.

The title caught my eye as I love the colours on these birds, I wasn't disappointed to see the picture, it's a good shot, well done.

What a beautiful bird Pete.

If we had goldfinches like that, I'd be buying more external HD. :)

Nice shot...

Our American goldfinches don't quite look the same, but they can clean out the nyger seed just as fast :)
