I had to share this with you. I got my new 70-200/2.8 IS a week ago at the Adorama store in NYC, after considerable thought, as usual ;). I will soon be posting some images taken with the lens in the archive. But here I am posting the unboxing, always an exciting moment in a new lens purchase. I was expecting everything from this lens, but the luxurious lens case was a big surprise. Here it comes:

1. Box ready.

Looks beautiful, congrats. :)

Anybody actually use these lens cases? My lenses go straight in the camera bag, and the cases go straight in the closet.

Funny you ask that. I have the 70-200 f/4.0 NON-IS version and I was admiring how much nicer the OP's case was. Then I read your post and realized I don't use the darn thing anyway. Thanks for curing my case envy.;)

The case comes with a nice black stripe to hang on the shoulder. I went to the US with my Lowepro slingshot filled with stuff, so the case came very much in handy on my return trip. Until I get a bigger camera bag, it will remain the only viable way to transport all the gear with me.

I used mine for a while. I attached it to the small bag that I had at the time and I carried it around like that. It looked, and was, ridiculous  Now I have a Lowepro Fastpack 250 so the case sits in the cupboard.

I used the one that came with my 100-400 for a while, until the stitching on the belt loop started to pull out. It then met the same fate as above and was joined by the one from the 70-200 when I got it.

Very nice and congrats on your new lens, you will love it! I found the enclosed Canon case to be of good quality, but space limited. I have a plate attached to the tripod collar on my lens and often times find it a little difficult to zip up the closure on the lens bag...

Ditto here. Just yesterday, my son was playing with some of my old equipment and he saw the "luxury case" from my 70-200 f2.8 and asked, "Dad, what's this thing and why don't you ever use it?"

I always like the cases in the safe. I've found using the case just slows me down.

Congratulations! I was hung up between this lens and the f/4L IS. The f/4 won after rationalizing the savings to get a 17-55IS rather than a Tamron 17-50. The case for the f/4 is more of a silk purse than a bag per say(better than a sow's ear?). Doesn't matter on two counts; one, I use Lowepro lens cases for all of my lenses for their ability to be used with my packs and bags when I need more room, and two, the images from the lens is so superb you forget about the sub-par 'case' and missing tripod collar.
