Just file a dispute through PayPal if you feel you need to. The process is fairly simple and straightforward. It'll probably take PayPal a while to claim in your favour (basically, the other side has to respond in a set time period).

Also, contact your bank/credit card company. If you've funded through Mastercard/Visa, then you'll probably be able to issue a charge-back and get your money back. The onus is then on PayPal to get money back from the claimant.

Additionally - this is in one of the sticky threads in the marketplace.

RESPONDING TO AN AD IN MARKETPLACE

This is your transaction. It is in your best interests to use traceable lines of communication such as e-mail or the telephone to conduct your business.

If you must use PM then feel free to do so but doing so you must understand that in case of trouble POTN will not give you any PM logs or user trace info because we are not part of the deal in any way. We do not guarantee that PM's reach their targets, either. When using your own email you have your own logs and also possibly your own ISP there to help you in trace.

It is up to you to verify buyer's/seller's integrity and it is up to you to manage transaction safely.

TO GET TO KNOW SELLER, PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT SELLERS PRIOR POSTS AND DISCUSSIONS AT POTN. YOU CAN DO IT BY CLICKING USER NAME ON THE LEFT SIDE AREA AND SELECTING "VIEW MORE POSTS BY....".

When you make a Paypal purchase just make sure you fund it with a credit card, ALWAYS. Never pay with a Paypal balance or an instant bank account transfer for any significant amount of money.

If the seller does not produce the goods you can file a charge back with your credit card company and you're good.

Give your seller a little time to deliver. A lot of people are on vacation this time of year. Plus, there are a lot of sellers who are clueless as to how stressful these kind of transactions can be to buyers. They don't understand the importance of communication.

Good luck with your purchase.

UPDATE: Hooray for Paypal! :):):) Paypal reimbursed me for the lens today!

A lesson learned! beware of scams, even on POTN it happens. Do your own investigating on the seller and cover your butt;)

Thank you...me too. I know a lot of people have issues with Paypal, but this is the 2nd time they have came through for me and got my money back...saving me from losing a couple thousand bucks now:D Sometimes I hate their policies like everyone else but times like these are the reason I have stuck with them all these years.

when i pay for anything through paypal i make sure i don't have a balance in the accout (transfer all funds to your bank account first) and then i pay with my amex card. i've had to file 3 disputes (1 on ebay and 2 through other forums) and all 3 times amex will freeze the funds so i don't have to pay in advance and they do their own investigation (contact seller and whatnot) and then they will remove the charge.

Have you filed a claim with the credit card company used for the
Paypal acct?

with paypal i always recommend transferring whatever funds you have in your account to your bank so then you pay with a credit card. most of the time i'll pay with my amex so that i'm protected by them as they're much more thorough with their investigation
