Two things that come to mind - first if your using a tripod - did you turn off the stabilizer? What was the aperture? Sometimes anything above F11 will not give you shaprness. As stated - you already have to great lens - many photo's here to prove it.

Its pratice, reset, pratice, reset - over and over again.

Larry
Thanks for the input. When you say did I turn off the stabilizer, are you referring to the IS? The nifty does not have IS and it was with this lens I was having the problems. I took these shots at a range of aperture - in fact I took them all the way from f1.8 through to f22 to see how they came out. Just didn't get anything I was happy with, with the nifty.

Then decided to try the kit lens as I could get a shorter minimum focus distance, and got the shots as posted - I thought these were not bad, and was quite happy.

I am not saying the nifty is a bad lens and obviously it isn't from all the great pics on here, and I have had a lot that I am more than happy with.

Anyhow, as I said I am just starting out and have a lot to learn. As you say practice, practice and then go practice!!

Thanks again
Dave

I wonder why you're saying that. I hope you can tell me more. What about the font?

Throughout the online community, the Papyrus font has become one of the few "faux fonts". The other one is Comic Sans. Papyrus is simply very overused, and besides its aesthetic qualities, many have come to shun the font and anything associated with it. Papyrus is not something I'd put on my own work. Do a simple google search, you can find lots of information.

There's even a whole page dedicated to the font: http://www.papyruswatch.com/ (external link)

That's fine you don't want to put it on your work but why do you feel the need to be the font police?

@ED Altares use whatever font makes you happy.

Yes but anyone in design or any field that professionally deals with type (printing, news paper, etc) might be put off it. I know at my school and many others, you use papyrus in your project, automatic F...not joking.

Too much ado about a font. If we treat all fonts like papyrus, this will be a busy world.

I surely will hesitate to use this font in the future though. Thanks to you guys.

And to cdahl, that's still a more sound advice man. Make your bliss the only test. Thanks.

It's not just that... If you are putting something on your work that is known as a parody to a large number of people, it will undoubtedly lower the overall quality of your work inadvertently.

It was just a small tip. I'd hate to see your brilliant photos being brought down just because of a font.

In design font makes a big difference, believe me there is a reason you see Helvetica, possibly the greatest san serif modern typeface, everywhere (external link)

All this nonsense about font on pictures, IMO ANY text on your photo ruins the image, if you HAVE to watermark your picture; do just that, go into photoshop, pick a clear font, in WHITE and overlay it. (If you want go in and emboss it to).

You do realize a watermark is used to deter theft, right? It's a protective measure only. When the photo is sold the watermark is removed.

And how many posters do you think sell their images?
