Anyone know where I can get a cheap bag. Preferably the Canon 200dg or any of the Lowepro flipsides for under 40?

Cheap is usually ebay, or you could put a wanted ad out in the Buyers/Sellers section!

Been trying to decide on a zoom lens for a while and really could not justify (afford) any of the L lenses, so took the plunge and bought an E-FS 55-250. Just took some shots with it today. I think it will take some time to really figure out the capabilties / limitations but it seems good for the price! Here is one that I liked from today.....

I really want some more reach for bird / wildlife photography, anyone have suggestions on any lenses under $1000??

usdave1t why f11? Your shutter speed is to slow, and you have got a bit of blur to your photo! You could have got a way with a much shallower DOF, or bumped the iso up to 200/400 and would have vastly increased your shutter speed at F11.

As far as setup goes, what kind of lens are you after? How about a wide angle?

Sorry Dave I didn't read the birding bit! But as above or the 70-200! Or 100-400L used.

Matty, thanks for the comments. I was at f/11 as I read somewhere that this lens is sharpest at f/8-11. Likewise, ISO-100 as it was bright sunshine, so it never dawned on my to increase the ISO (duh!). I am quite new to the DSLR world and still learning. Totally agree that the shutter speed was too slow, but didn't realize till I got home!
Again, thanks for the comments and advice.
As far as lenses go, I would like to get something with more reach for bird photography - there are a lot of hawks of some sort around where I live and I would like to get some good pics of them.
Of course, taking into account your advice, if I step up the ISO I maybe able to get something reasonable with the 55-250 I have and then do a 100% crop???

Thanks again
Dave

Have you used the Sigma 50-500? I looked at this but then someone told me it is very soft (as are all super zooms?) so I stayed away from it.

sorry I usually put reasoning behind my post...forgot to on that one :P

I said 70-200f4L and 1.4x just because I believe it would give you the best versatility and sharpness and value...idk something about a lens that spans 50-500 that makes me question the sharpness if most pro's use primes. Also the 1.4 is only going to bump the stop down to a 5.6 still perfectly fine for outdoor shooting. And that paired with a crop body is going to get you a 2x increase...so you are going to get the equivalent of shooting a 400..and still all L glass :P

No. But for the budget and FL you mentioned, I can't think of any other lens others on here recommend more than those two.
