My wife and I were hoping to get tickets to something but even the less popular events are really expensive. Gold medal hockey game tickets are going for over a thousand dollars, and those are the "cheap" nosebleed seats. We will probably just enjoy the atmosphere downtown and take in some of the many free activities around town.

saw tickets for gold medal game three from the ice for $9000.00 each. thats crazy.

Love the doggies.

Cheers :) Standard 18-55mm kit lens

Inspired me to try some macro with the kit lens. I'm not too familiar with macro shots, is it better to use the 55mm end of the lens from a little farther back? I was having difficulty getting focus when I was closer using the 18mm end.

Please tell me that these events aren't sold out...that's just crazy prices.

using the 18mm end might require you to get too close, closer than the minimum focusing distance, indicated on the lens, thus causing problems with focus. the telephoto end will allow you to frame it closer without physically getting too close, plus the telephoto end will increase the out of focus background.

Just a fun shot from the snow here in New Jersey yesterday. We got around 13 inches of snow in my neck of the woods. The snow towered over my dog.

and then the cleanup later that night..

I need to correct the blue bits on there, taken with the 50mm, 1600 iso at 2.2 fstop.

Lord Jezo Have you got a cheap UV filter on the lens? That looks like the problem? My friend suffers from this using his cheap Jessops filter in the UK.

Ah, that makes sense. I've had my XS for just a couple months now, still learning a lot. So distance from subject and a lower F will give better blurred backgrounds? Guess I need to add a telephoto to the list :D

to complete the thought :D to blur to the background

1. subject should be close to the lens
2. subject should be far from the background
3. aperture should be wide open
4. the longer end should be used.

I think those are the basic things to keep in mind. there are other factors considered to blur background tho.
