how do you like the sigma 70-200?

if the sigma had optical stabilization, I'd be all over it!

wow really?...shady...you euros just get the shaft don't you :p

Hey hey no euros in the UK thank god!! It used to come with the IS lens when I bought mine a year or so ago, but no longer. Plus the whole package has risen in price! I only paid £380 or so for the body an IS lens.

I have a quick question for my fellow XS owners and figured this would be the bast place for it. I recently started reading about Canon having a history of AF problems in their cameras.

What exactly do these AF probelms (heard about near focus, back focus?) look like, and how can I tell if you have them? I'm still pretty new and would hate to have a camera issue and not realize it because I am blaming myself for it, y'know?

Anyone out there experience these types of things before? if so, how easily was it corrected?

Just go look at all the amazing photos in this thread, then go look at all the other camera-specific threads and then you'll realize that that is a red herring. Forget about it - get your EOS and go start shooting!

The UK 1000D, usually doesn't come with a I.S. lens. although the rebel does seem to come I.S.

Interesting... what a bummer! I'm in the UK and the I.S really was a selling point for me. Think I'll just get the body and buy lenses separately, seems the easiest option, the packages seem to just shaft you with mediocre lenses. It's only £390 online to get the body and the 18-55 IS separately, as opposed to £370 for the packaged non-IS.

Thanks for all the useful info people! Hopefully I'll be back soon, camera in tow! :)

there are chances that a camera or lens could be out of calibration, and in any of canon's lines. But the odds of either one being of are almost nil.
I'm not trying to put you off on anything - but if you read on forums long enough, there have been those that have had problems with all of canons lines from the rebel to the 1dsV. The real trouble here is you can say the same thing with any product. Dig onto forums long enough and you will find someone, somewhere that has had problems with it. Take a car - you could read tons of things on the vette forums and think that a corvette is the largest POS ever created in the history of cars. I think it stems from the fact that most people don't comment on their items when they work perfectly. They're too busy enjoying whatever it is that they have.

Therefore the largesse of the posts you will find are questions or negative comments. What I am trying to say is don't be scared off by the negative reviews you will find. You have to take into account the market of the item. 100 people having problems with something that sold 100,000 units is 0.1% pretty dang good quality control if you ask me.

I will also add that I went round and round when searching out my cam. panicked over the XSi focus issue and went with the XS because of it. After a year of playing with my XS, and handling several XSi's (none of which had any of the issues I feared) I have come to the conclusion that I deluded myself and should have gone with the XSi in the first place. Not that I am unhappy with the XS at all. just bummed that I panicked for no reason.

I will also add that I did send my XS in for calibration, not for any reason, simply because I could. They also cleaned it so I can say my only experience with canon service has been positive so far.

no charge if it's still under warranty. However, you do have to pay the shipping one way. they pay the return.

I got my 1000d and 18-55 IS kit from the canon UK out let, it was a refurb with 12 months warranty, but when it came, it was in a pristine if not new box, and I would have said the whole lot was new.

best bit was it was £245 inc shipping.......

Hi all,

I'm new here but have been lurking and looking at your pics for a few days... sorry!

I'm about to get my first DSLR and I think I've settled on the 1000D - I just have one question I can't seem to get a firm answer on. I'll be looking at getting the twin lens kit with the 18-55 and 75-300 lenses - do the kit ones have IS? That was quite a big selling point for me because I have an aversion to tripods. Well, to carrying them anyway, and whilst I think the 18-55 would be okay I'm not convinced it'd be worth getting the 75-300 without the IS.

Thanks!

Laura

That's the kit I started with. The 18-55 did have IS, but the 75-300 did not. I used the zoom quite a bit, until I bought my 70-200 2.8 IS, but I never used the 18-55 because I bought a 50 1.4 right away.
