Can someone please help, I have recently purchased a Canon 1000D, literally used it 3 times and it's not working!

There is nothing on the display, (I have tried all buttons incase I'd pushed something) and it will not take a picture no matter what setting I have it on. I would just take it back to the shop but I bought it in John Lewis and I live in Portugal so would need to fly back to UK to take it back :(

The camera does focus, very slowly, but no shutter noise and no display whatever I do. I can't view pics I've taken or anything.

Is it something I've done or do you think I have a duff camera?

Many thanks in advance
Gemma

If you look in the bottom left of this page, you'll see links to customer support:

http://www.usa.canon.com …oller?act=SupportIndexAct (external link)

If it does need to go back:

http://www.johnlewis.com …HelpId=7#returnsprocedure (external link)

From my memories of living in the UK, John Lewis should be very good about returning it - especially if you've talked it through with a Canon tech first; if you are advised that it's faulty you'll be given a reference number to quote, and you'll need to give that to John Lewis.

It's HDR. I just meant that I like to shoot raw all the time (because I goof up a lot).

Thank you. bw!

Hi guys just got my camera. loving it so much. I'm gonna go off topic instead of making a thread.

Lets stay some kid in front of you steps in a mud puddle and a drop of muddy water lands on your lens. Time has passed and the mud dried up on your lens.

How do you deal with this situation? I'm asking because I would like to know and am trying to find out how to use the lens cleaning liquid that came with my camera kit.

what is your favorite lens to use with this wonderful little beauty?

My 100-300 5.6L until I can afford something faster with the same reach.

Awesome thread. Learning a lot here. Just got my first DSLR yesterday evening. Very green  coming from PS old Nikon CoolPix 775 (8 year old camera).

Have been playing with the Rebel XS and here are some of the pictures.

I take everything in RAW.

Tis a "muddy" image (ie lacking good blacks, and good highlights) and since you have the raw file I would fix that, also as said before would have benefitted from a smaller aperture.
