1000D rebex Xs is definately a good camera ! still loving it !

Hi everyone! Wonderful to know there are 1000D supporters here.

Just got the 1000D w/ 18-55mm IS kit a couple of months ago. Still trying to learn the ropes of using a DSLR. I was actually aiming for the Nikon D60, but the shop suggested the 1000D, as it has more features. No regrets, so far. And, as some of you probably experienced, "pros" sniggered when they see 1000D, so it's hardened my resolved to beat them with this "toy".

I'm still have the kit lens, but have since added the EF 50mm f/1.8 II. A pretty good lens despite being the cheapest!

I do however have a question: Why do some of the photos turn out greenish when set to Daylight WB (making it look like a morgue shoot)? There's tungsten light from the left side, and daylight from the right side.

you didn't happen to buy that in London did you?

That's exactly what happened to me... was torn between the 1000d and the D60. I had wanted the canon but was beginning to get turned away from everyone talking about canon's error 99...

But the guy in London is a heck of a salesman... he probably would have sold his jacket and shirt if he continued... . Anyway, no probs so far and the camera works great.

As for the white balance i have no idea... but i try and just leave it on AWB... seems to work out ok...

pretty nice shots!

for white balance, AWB works most of the time. But try to use the right one ;p if not, try shooting RAW so you can change WB after just a tip it saved me some pictures already

Hi -- another XS owner here who loves it! Some of my favorite features:

* It's relatively lightweight.
* The battery life is outstanding
* It's quick
* Live View (when I need it, which is rare but necessary at times.)
* The fact that it came with the same IS kit lens as the XSi and I got it for about $250 cheaper overall.
* The function buttons are easily found and accessed.

There are more -- but I just love the pictures I've gotten with it. I do use the kit lens, but I also have the 50 mm prime and my zoom (75-300 from my old, film camera and, dang, that thing takes nice pictures!)

Great feedback and great pics!!
Over the last year, I have found that the 1000D is extremely easy to use.
Ergonomics (with and without grip) are just about perfect for my hands.
Battery life is outstanding with the single LP-E5, but add a grip and that easily doubles.
I am using Energizer Lithium AA's with the other cartridge and have taken just over 2000 shots, and the meter still shows full. Very worthwhile investment.

Talking about pics, here's a few more from my side.

OK, I do have a few questions about my beloved XS.

1.) I assume that 1000D is the non-US name for the XS? Why 2 different names?
2.) Is the auto focus supposed to work on "Live View"? It doesn't for me. I have to manually focus (which is fine, but odd, I thought.)

1) "Rebel" is the US name. You'd have to ask marketing "why" but it likely has to do with research on what is more appealing to people in different markets.

I'm not so sure "Rebel" appeals to me.

just a correction, you can do auto focus with live view.

press the * button for a few seconds then it will autofocus

just make sure it is on "live mode" in fn 7 of the menu

UPDATE: Oh, I think I figured it out. I never noticed that menu function before. I'll have to read more about the custom functions. Thanks so much!!

The XS has done a great job for me so far. no complaints on the image quality, but I just wish the build quality was better and not so cheap feeling sometimes.
