Not sure how great it is, but I like it so...
I like your surfer shot but more importantly, YOU like your surfer shot.
Take pictures you like, accept criticism but remember, you're the only one that has to like them in the end.

I have a little sister who's turning seventeen this summer. Shes always been interested in photo and lately she have been asking me for advice when it comes to buying a camera. I thought I would surprise her and get her a 1000d as a birthday gift. What lens would you recommend to get with it? I really like what I have seen from the 55-250. Seems like a tack sharp EF-S lens. I don't know any specific lens for that situation - but I think for a beginner (like I still consider myself) having a couple of lenses that get you a taste of multple focal lengths is great, even if if they are not the fastest lenses. I got the 18-55 and the 75-300 with my kit and I am glad I did. They are neither the best (far from it) but it let me try almost everything I want to try at the start. My first addition was the nifty 50 so I could do more indoor ambient light. Sorry, that my recomendation isn't one lens, but like I said, I'm glad I went that way. Now I really have a better idea what I want and need when I upgrade. Kevin

She could get my nifty fifty since I am getting the sigma next month or the L this summer and the 18-55 IS is really nice aswell. So one prime and one 18-55 with the camera and a telezoom for christmas? Lots of old stuff but hey I am a student
