what post processing did you use for the 1st and last pictures? they are great

In the first picture all I did was add a strong vignette and make the white balance muuuuuch bluer than it normally would have been, and in the third all I did was click auto color in Lightroom and I left it the way it came. Thanks!

Now thats a lens!!!!

You can say that again!

Here's someone who takes the "gLass before body" motto seriously!

 For sure haha. The owner actually bought this while his only body was a XTi, now he had a 50D and 7D.

Cliffs wrote in post #13164137 (external link)
Didn't he say it wasn't his?

Not mine, could have been, had 2 chances to run away with it lol.

ShaneKPhotography wrote in post #13164320 (external link)
lol a $10,000 lens on a $500 body

More like 6K on a 400$ body just to make it more even lol.

Crazy_Guitar wrote in post #13164330 (external link)
Nevertheless...

I'm up for that motto too! :p

Lol

Hi all. New to this forum and new to this type of camera. My husband bought me a Canon Rebel XS 1000D two years ago and am just now picking it up to use. (scares me lol) I'm used to a 35mm that I just turn on point it, zoom if I need and take the pic.

I'm glad I found this site. A few days ago, I joined a site but it's mostly to get critiques on your photos, so am excited to look around here and see if I can figure this complicated thing out before I get discouraged. I know on the other site several said this is just a cheap beginner camera and I'm ok with that because I've never used a camera like this before. I've not ventured outside the auto mode yet but really want to learn.

The lens' I have came with the camera. It was a "kit" on ebay, (new). The lens are: Tamron 28-80mm, Tamron 75-300mm Tele-Macro, a digital high definition 2X telephoto lens and a digital high definition 0.45 Super Wide Angle Lens with Macro. He also bought a 500mm F8.0 lens that is manual focus. Also learned the lens' are cheap too but again, ok with that until I see if I can figure this out and learn what lens' I need then I can buy better.

Now, I have a couple questions. Do I need to just get a better camera and learn all this from it? Or learn from this, then upgrade? Most of my pics now are things like deer in the yard, grandkids, etc. Would really like to learn to do some really close ups of flowers and insects, etc for grandkids walls when I figure out how to use the camera and what lens is for what. Is there another lens I need for the type of photos I want to take? Hope you don't mind the questions. If this site isn't for that, could someone direct me to a site that is? I REALLY want to learn to use this type of camera. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the club. If you don't plan on becoming a professional photographer the camera body (lens upgrades is the way to go) you have will suit whatever images you want to capture.

If you can't find what you need within this community, I highly recommend this one...

Hello everyone. I'm new to the site. I've got a 1000d camera and i love it.
I been using it to start my photography business and this camera is more than enough for me. I only got 2 lenses for it since that my husband only bought it for me 2 months ago. :)

I highly recommend getting a book called "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson. It's an excellent book for learning what the different settings on your camera do and how they affect pictures in different ways. I bought it shortly after getting my camera and really did learn a lot from it. The way he describes things and shows them in the pictures that are in the book make it very easy to learn from. I think you will enjoy it and it will help you tremendously.

Once you understand more about how to actually use the camera and different lenses, then you may upgrade to other lenses, but for right now, I don't think you should buy anything else.

Thank you for your response Cliffs. I will look at that site. At 51, probably not going to become a professional anything LOL will take me 'till I'm 70 to learn to use this camera!

Thank you WayneS...I will look that book up. I was wondering about any other lenses because it seems from reading on that other site that people had a favorite "every day" or "go to" lens they used a lot of the time. Thank you for your response, I appreciate it and the information.

Its not as complicated as it first seems. I would recommend the book "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson. It's easy to comprehend and will give a lot of insight. AND ITS FILLED WITH PICTURES! Who doesn't like that :) Best of luck.

Thank you Shane. And yes it is VERY overwhelming right now. Rules of composition and all that stuff....all the functions and buttons of the camera...ISO, aperture, f-stop, depth of field....putting it all together? ugh..complicated! lol Thank you for your response!

By film lenses do you mean that they are EF type lenses or FD lenses?

EF yes. FD no.
