Looking thru this section of the forum makes me want a "nifty fifty" but alas my budget is shot for a while. That is unless someone out there would like to do some trading for a Nikon N80 (film) with a Nikkor 28-80mm f3.5-5.8D lens.

But since that day is likely still quite a ways off (I don't buy on credit and my 20yo daughter needs a halfway reliable car), recently I've been seeing what I can do with my XS to make life with it more bearable. My most recent purchase has been this:
I bought it from an eBay seller for a bit less than $50. It fits the XS and XSi and one other -- in Euro parlance, the 450D/500D/1000D. It comes with two battery trays -- one for two rechargeables and the other for six AAs. It also comes with a remote for unattended photography. And having the controls for vertical shooting is a real plus. I was expecting something that was rather cheap and plasticky -- that is, I wasn't holding out much hope. But I was actually pleasantly surprised. The grip appears to be quite solid and well made. The trays fit into the body well and snap into place cleanly. It even has a textured rubberized grip. The LCD window in the back can be set for Yr/Mo/Day and 24-hour format time. When using the wireless remote, it displays the info related to that feature. It also has an intervalometer function. I like my XS much more with the grip attached. I don't mind the extra heft, and I appreciate the additional extension. I have largish hands and one of my complaints about my XS has always been that it just feels too small in my hands. This grip takes care of that issue nicely. All in all, I feel it was money very well spent. Just thought I'd pass it along. Michael

I saw them a few weeks ago down here in Houston. But I didn't have enough focal length to get close-up shots like that. I did manage to snap this one, though: Michael
