It's a must have lens if your looking to upgrade from the 55-250 IS or 75-300. The quality is second to none and you can really tell when comparing to old shots taken with the 55-250. It performs much better on a EOS 40D or 7D body but on the Rebel it still works great. It is rapid, silent and sharp. My Website

Yes the 55-250 IS is a fantastic lens for the price. The 75-300 is one of the most rubbish Canon lenses ever made. My Website

I recently converted from an 18x super zoom point and shoot so I'm adjusting to life without the incredible reach of my trusty Lumix. I started looking at lenses, just for reference, not ready to buy and I came across this one... http://www.amazon.com …oto-Cameras/dp/B00004THD0 Question - is the lack of image stabilization in this lens going to cause me problems? Do I need to save up for the more expensive lenses that have it? My main use would be outdoor daylight photography for this so it's just walk point and shoot that I am thinking about. My XS came bundled with the 75-300. I think it's decent for beginners but you'll need a tripod. I use mine for sports alot. IS would be nice though. There's a lens example forum. Canon Rebel XS - 18-55mm IS - 75-300mm - 50mm f/1.8II
