WiredLlama Hatchling 7 posts Joined Jan 2012 Location: PA More info | Ok, so only a few months into Rebel XS ownership. Still learning a lot of the tricks of the trade. This website has been really helpful and I am very happy to have found a post dedicated to the Rebel XS so I can see what my camera is capable of. This picture is not the original file (I had to grab it off my facebook account at work) so that is why it doesn't look as sharp as it should. I am also very green in editing the photos (combination of Gimp here at work and CS4 at home). But here is one that I kind of thought came out alright. Just had to pull off the side of the road a couple months back when I saw this out the window. Thoughts/comments always appreciated.

I'm looking to build a portfolio of decent glass that will work on my next camera body (hopefully a full frame). Near term purchases are going to be either a 100mm f2.8 macro and/or a 70-200 F4L, followed by some sort of wide angle zoom or prime, hopefully of L grade. I don't mind losing the IS if the IQ is high and I can save serious money. Tripods were invented for a reason. When I inquired about the price of the two lenses mentioned above, a sales clerk said not to bother with "mid-level" lenses without IS or 2.8 apertures, and to stick with kit lenses (i.e. EF 75-300) until I can afford high end L grade lenses and a better body. His logic was that canon lenses don't lose their value, and i could sell the kit-level lenses for pretty much what I paid for them after saving up a few grand for the high end stuff. He also inferred that better glass on the XS was somewhat overkill or wasted. I can see his logic, but my current kit lens just leaves me wanting and I'd rather save my money for a better camera body rather than top grade lenses. I also think he's trying to make a bigger sale in the long term. That said, there may be wisdom that you call can impart. =) PlannerJohn One word, commission ՕFlickr
