I've had my XS since 09 and made the call to upgrade to a 60d this august when all the bodies went on sale. Was completely worth the money at the time. Briefly tried to sell the old rebel with no luck, so I just kept it in my bag as a backup.

Good to hear! I may do the same and let it collect dust as well :p I've consider buying the refurbish body through canon. 60D was my ideal choice until the T4i/T5i came out.

A-mazing photo, partner!!!
bw!

Got any "behind the scenes" explanation? :)

Thank you very much! Camera settings f4/30 sec/ISO 200. This picture is stacked by total of 48 images. I used stacking software called StarTrails (external link). I wish I could use more shots, but the sky turned cloudy.
House was located near the highway and the lightpainting for foreground was done by passing cars.

Sorry for my bad English!:o

I was on the same boat, but now I pulled the trigger for the t5i through canon refurbished site. They have 25% off on their cameras until Dec 2!

Haven't used my XS much since getting a 60d, so I decided to go through old pictures that I didn't like and found this one of my old car before it was totaled.

Thinking about loaning it out to a friend that has been wanting to buy DSLR so they could learn with it.

After 5 years and countless photos with my trusty XS, I am finally moving on. I picked up a brand spankin new 70D today. The XS is being sold to a friend's wife who is wanting to dabble in photography without spending much money to start. So it will be going to a good home where it will still find plenty of use.

Awesome pictures guys! I've had mine for a little over three years now. Wanting to upgrade to either the 60D or T5i but I know I don't need to..just a want :)

I just sold mine with an 18-55 stm lens for less than $200. The stm lens was part of the kit from the t5i I got 25% off refurbished on black Friday or cyber monday at canon.

I figured someone else learn from it than make it gather dust somewhere :-P but that's just me :-P

Right on! I told my little brothers g/f I'd sell her the camera+kit lens for $200 when I pick up a new body and sell the nifty fifty to her for $80. How are you liking the camera compare to the XS? Any pros and cons you want to throw out here?

Here are a few pictures to add to this thread since it's being bumped :)

I've since upgraded to the 7D, but I really liked my XS and thought it was a great camera especially for the price.

Here are a couple I've taken with the XS:

Right off the bat I can say the Iso sensitivity is really great. I can take photos now at night in darker places where the xs would have struggled. I can use faster shutter speeds when taking photos of my kids in low light because of this.

Of course videos of my kids.

The thing I miss with the xs is the weight and the slower fps. I miss the slower fps because I often use the timed continuous mode (5 shots) for group shots where I am included. With the xs there is time to change expressions or even do whacky poses, with the t5i the frame rate is so fast there is no time to change expressions at all!

To keep the post relevant to xs users, here is the last photo shoot I did with my family with my beloved xs. The picture is a bit blurry since the shutter speed was slow, but my son and daughter's expressions were priceless!

this thread has been sleeping, so I thought I would snap a few shots and revive our lil' ol' XS a bit!

Hey guys,

I was wondering if someone could tell me some info about the canon rebel xs.

I want to know about the CCD and what light wavelengths it passes? Just visible light? (380nm - 700nm roughly)

Any info would be great.

Thanks

Well guys, almost 4 years later I've decided to upgrade and get another body. Saw an awesome deal on a used t4i and jumped on it. Got the camera today and instantly put my Sigma 30mm 1.4 EX DC on it. Loving the camera! And I am giving my Rebel XS with the kit lens(18-55) to my older brother and his wife. Here's the last photo I took with the 1000D, got the nifty fifty on it.
