Thanks for the advice, I can't seem to create a watermark that is both subtle but also effective. Whenever I create a semi transparent watermark, I find it hard to see on certain photos depending on the background colour. I thought making a wee watermark in the corner would be better. Any ideas for a better one?

Just some small, simple text in the bottom corner like the last few posts have done.

Download faststone image viewer, and just run all your pics through the batch watermarker

Picasa also has a watermark option. After it's indexed a picture folder, you can export all of those photos to another folder. You can opt to include a watermark on each pic as it exports. I save my RAW files as TIF, and then I'll export it through Picasa, which puts a watermark on it, and converts it to JPEG.

Or you could create a brush preset if you use Photoshop and use this brush as your watermarking tool on a new layer and adjust the colour and opacity accordingly. This gives me a lot a creative freedom since I usually set the text colour the same as the key subject in the photograph. Here's an example :

I'm assuming with the 100-400? With our dollar nearly at par (I think we're at like 98 cents right now), I was also looking at and considering it instead of the 70-200 f/4 (possibly IS). Anymore examples of images taken with the 100-400 and the XS?

So guys...What's the main point of watermarking your photos? and how good of a photographer do you have to be to start putting your name on your photos?

I doubt it has much to do with a level of photography as much as it is a level of using someone's picture for personal recognition. I know a couple news people that have done so already...

then again it's just a thought...

a friend of mine had some of his pictures taken, with the person taking them claiming them as their own. People just want to have ownership of their hard work. I'm sure people wouldn't mind it if someone came up to them and asked for permission to publish a photo or use it for other purposes as long as the photographer received the recognition for it.

There's another user on this forum, Taron, that I was talking to about watermarks one day. he sent me this link http://www.taron.de/Endless_why.htm (external link)
that showed one of his creations that was stolen and made into a tattoo. The tattoo won a contest.

A small signature in the corner of a photo can easily be removed in any PP program, can it not?

Aren't true watermarks, large and across the image?

It's still saying this on the USPS website, I know that it won't actually say delivered until it is delivered. Their system is not really for tracking, just confirmation of shipping. He said he was shipping it Tuesday, so it'll probably be Saturday or Monday.

Class: Priority Mail®
Service(s): Delivery Confirmation™
Status: Electronic Shipping Info Received

The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on October 13, 2009 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later.

yeah....I hate trying to track on USPS lol. you are correct...it will continue to say "electronic shipping information received" and you won't know where it's at until the mailman rings your door (or is just too lazy and leaves a note saying you need to come down and pick it up)
