Oh they know better than to leave a note for me, I live so far off the road and used to deliver my own mail. They know they can sign it for me and leave it on the porch, or get chewed out by the PM when they get back.

yeah....I hate trying to track on USPS lol. you are correct...it will continue to say "electronic shipping information received" and you won't know where it's at until the mailman rings your door (or is just too lazy and leaves a note saying you need to come down and pick it up)

A small signature in the corner of a photo can easily be removed in any PP program, can it not?

Aren't true watermarks, large and across the image?

Just about any watermark can be removed if someone wants the image badly enough. I haven't started watermarking my images yet, mostly because I just haven't had the time to sit down and create a watermark.

habsfan93,

Give Picasa photoviewer a try. It's effortless really. You can batch export pics (or single pics) and in the process give them a watermark in the lower right-hand side. It's nothing fancy, just straight to the point.

A few I liked from our recent trip - they all seem to have been softened when I resized.

Thanks for the advice, I can't seem to create a watermark that is both subtle but also effective. Whenever I create a semi transparent watermark, I find it hard to see on certain photos depending on the background colour. I thought making a wee watermark in the corner would be better. Any ideas for a better one?

I use Paint Shop Pro X2 for my image processing and also use its watermark feature. I can adjust the opacity and emboss level to make it as unobtrusive or prominent as I want. I've found that I cannot use one setting for all photos. Some need more of these settings, some need less.

I've noticed this as well. So I will often add just a touch of sharpening after resizing. Easy does it.

So guys...What's the main point of watermarking your photos? and how good of a photographer do you have to be to start putting your name on your photos?

I wouldn't and don't watermark my shots, I would start if people started stealing my work, but I'm not that good so

Something to do in the rain -- or right after it stops

I pulled out the XS yesterday while it was raining, thinking of a few shots that might be interesting. By the time I started snapping pics, though, the rain had let up. Still, I found some interesting items.

XS with 18-55 IS, Av @ f/8, fill flash, ISO 400

XS with an old 55mm f/3.5 Micro Nikkor (Nikon F to EOS adapter), f/8. XS set to Av mode, fill flash. ISO 400.

A lonely old bird feeder that actually has green stuff growing out of it. I don't use it anymore cuz every time it rains, the birdseed sprouts, and kinda defeats the purpose. XS with EF 70-210 f/4 (Canon's first EF tele zoom), Av @ f/8, fill flash, ISO 400.

Some of that green stuff on the birdhouse. XS with 55mm f/3.5 Micro Nikkor (Nikon F to EOS adapter), f/8. XS set to Av mode, fill flash. ISO 400.

The biggest problem I had getting the above images was the tropical jungle like weather. It was hot, and my eyeglasses and lenses kept wanting to fog up.

In retrospect, if I wanted to do this over, I would have turned the XS's ISO down to 100, cuz there was more noise than I care to see. I was able to get rid of some of it using PSPX2's noise reduction routines, but it would have been better if I would have just taken care of the issue from the git-go.

Wow, very nice pics, Rob. And a pretty incredible piece of architecture as well. What lens(es) did you use for this?

York Minster is beautiful. It had a huge fire about 30 years ago which destroyed the roof and made a real mess. It took years to restore to its present condition.

All photos are taken with the standard 18-55mm IS kit lens.

Here's a couple of HDR versions:
