What's wrong with rain? Rain=awesome waterfalls! That's why you have to love the Hilo side. Of course, I'm biased, since I lived there for 3 years.

It rained eleven inches in one day while we were at the Volcano Village. Here is what Rainbow Falls and Akaka Falls looked like.

but having a fire while listening to the rain fall in the forest was incredibly relaxing

When exactly were you there? I was there over winter break and it looked exactly like this. Needless to say, it's been a wet year for Big Island!
