Dillema here looking to buy a new camera. I have a 30D/50D pair with 85 1.2L, 50 1.2, 70-200 F4L. I mainly shot concert. What camera would anyone suggest to get? Now I know that there is a heck of a price difference between the two.

If you don't mind the size, weight, quirky 2-buttons control, smaller LCD screen and extra cost, 1DsMKII all the way.

How would you compared the 5D MkII?

It depends - do you need the higher resolution and ruggedness of the 1Ds? Both cameras have their advantages. The 1Ds will be able to resolve more detail, but comes at the cost of a bigger/heavier camera, smaller LCD, and well...more money.

Here is a comparison between 5D/1DsII/5dII files:

If I were in your shoes, I would go for the 5D. I have one myself, and really enjoy using it for everything. The resolution is good enough for me, plus it was much cheaper than the 1DsII. I have used the 1DsII before and believe my 5D performed better in the dark (better high ISO) so this also greatly influenced my decision. As you shoot concerts, you may want to consider this.

Yes better high ISO is good but the Canon 5d (Mark I and II) has a poor AF system, below of the Canon 50d, so perhaps isn't good for his purpose.

Perhaps would do better to keep the money and wait for a new model canon full frame with a better AF module ...

Forgot to mention that the 5D AF is NOT that bad. I shoot professional and college sports (at night, during the day, whenever) and often used a 5D as a second body. I was never let down with the results. My 1D3 and 1D2N had more AF options and performed (noticeably? maybe) better in low light scenarios, but then again - that's what those cameras are made to do. 1DsII is nearly twice the cost of the 5D, and in my opinion the 5D performs 95% just as good.

In terms of shutter lag (pressing the button to the shutter actually opening) you will notice a considerable difference between the 1D series and 5D. I would not worry about AF unless you are doing birding, sports, or anything very fast paced. I can't see how the 5D or 5DII would let you down shooting concerts.

I don't find the 5D AF any worse than my 40D's AF. I actually thing the center point has a higher hit rate. I shoot quite a few concerts. If you need fast AF, then the 5D may not be the camera for you.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

Eventually you can look also the mark III
1D Mark III: first impressions + mini-review

I think the real problem is the lack of presence of a real alternative of the Nikon D700.

I personally would pick a 1ds2 over 5d2... Don't need the extra 4mp's. Don't need the video, even though it would be nice... But what really does it for me is the af of the 1ds2. Especially at 1.2... And, the location of af points.

I would take a 1DsII over a 5D any day!

You can always buy a compact camera for 100 dollars for the video. ;)

And that's why I'm selling my 5d2 and keeping my 1ds2! :)

I was doing some portraits this weekend and Had some jumping pictures of kids in the studio. I would not have felt confident with the 5d using outer points and AI Servo... might as well have propped them up on a stool and had them pretend.. :)
