My laptop controls the desktop (Dell Optiplex 755) over the LAN. I just move my mouse off the top of my laptop screen and it's on the desktop. Fully encrypted between the two as well.

Synergy2 is the program that does it, and it can handle a ton of computers with one keyboard/mouse server. I run it over an OpenVPN tunnel for encryption.
