In avalanche prone areas of the mountains, particularly vulnerable stretches of roadway or rail lines are protected by a reinforced structure that keeps that section from being damaged or covered in the event of an avalanche. There was an interesting article about photography in there, and it has me inspired to try. Contrary to what I had assumed would be good technique, they recommend using a wide angle lens with a very small aperture. Some of the photos they printed were shot at f/29, 1 second. The main thing they did that I thought was interesting was shooting at track level instead of the typical 'helicopter' shot down onto the subject. With those settings, they get tremendous depth-of-field. I'm not sure how they get f/29. For some reason, I'm thinking most of my lenses only go to about f/22. I'll have to check on that. I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

Anyway, I'll be trying it in a few days. I'll post the results. BTW, the fellow who wrote the article was using a Rebel 350 with the standard kit lens, and his results were fantastic. Maybe I'll see if I can find that issue next time I'm at the bookstore. Somewhere in the attic there's a bunch of model train stuff belonging to Heather's father. John
