Even if it is fantastic at all apertures and all focal lengths, it is not worth that price. It would have to be L, weathersealed and constant f/4 (essentially the mirror image of my 24-105 in an EF-S lens) to command that price. I was initially thinking about upgrading my 17-85 IS USM to that lens especially since my 17-85 isn't the most reliable piece of glass I've owned but the price is just nuts and I would reach for the 24-105 most of the time anyway. Might even be worth keeping a spare 24-105 in the bag - I use mine that much. $800 ain't worth what it used to be. I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

DigitalDabbler wrote in post #8567777 Edit: Moooooooooo! (forgot the greeting) Ditto, but I figured that now they're being made by hitachi, they might be better. WD, I heard both good and bad about (nothing like the darkstars, though), My other option would be fujitsu. I haven't managed to kill one yet. I did have a deathstar and it lived up to its name, I'm afraid. the 1GB fujitsu - five years it's senior - was still going strong when I de-commisioned the BSD firewall in favour of a dedicated netgear router. FWIW it was the root partition of a linux box with the desksplat serving as /var, /home and /usr. Had an older seagate as the swap drive. The fujitsu was re-formatted and had BSD installed. This was 6 years ago. I'm betting that If'n I arc up the box it'll boot first go. For me, It's the straw. C:\> Try booting it up. Speaking of BSD, I had this old FreeBSD box that ran for 6 years without a single reboot. Greg_C wrote in post #8567798 Just got off the phone to my dad. My grandmother (88 this weekend) was in a car accident today. Luckily she was unhurt (except for bruising) but it could have been very serious. She was stopped at the lights to turn and a large SUV with a bull bar slammed into her at 60km/hr, sending her into the oncoming traffic, clipping another car. Her car is a total write off, the force of impact broke her car seat and it ended up horizontal. Just glad she's unhurt. Ouch. Good thing she's okay though, that's all that really matters. DigitalDabbler wrote in post #8567976 I had a very similar accident. I head-butted the passenger window and spent 4 hours under observation for concussion in casualty (OzSpeak for ER). I made some life-changing and possibly wrong decisions immediately thereafter. Keep a close eye on your grand-mum and ask her if she is sure about things, especially about any big decisions. I had another piece of glass emerge from my forehead three days ago. The accident was in 1985 and I'm dead-scared that one such fragment will migrate into an eye socket. Glass is pretty much invisible to X-rays. I hope that your gran's alright. C:\> Ack. What's it like having glass randomly come out of your body? I'd imagine it's painful, but then again your body is rejecting it slowly, so it might not be. Belmondo wrote in post #8568611 My only consolation is we're not alone. One day you go to be feeling pretty good about things. In two years, you wake up and realize that a sizable net worth has miraculously been transformed into a negative number (and still sinkin). Arnie has no bailout budget. He's proposing a statewide 'garage sale' to generate cash. Who has cash? ![]() Well what did Californians expect when they elected the Terminator? Of course he's gonna terminate the state budget! I have with a 580, they weren't too happy.

We were thinking of flagging him down, but Alex said "Ah, it's no big deal, he'll have to refuel at the next gas station anyway."

He's proposing a statewide 'garage sale' to generate cash. That was the plan for the last few years here in ILL. They sold off a bunch of stuff and still trying to pawn off an airport or two and the Tollway. I have a few friends that would gladly do that job. Unfortunatly for every greater there are hundreds of applicants. Especially my wifes van and it's 35 gallon gas tank. Its nice because we have fantastic range but we have bumped into a cpouple of places that limit the amount of gas you purchase to some dollar amount.
